  • 12:20 PM - 1:10 PM
  • U of M, Minneapolis
CARLA sponsors occasional lunchtime presentations of interest of language educators in Room 101 of the University International Center.

The University International Center is located at 331 17th Avenue SE in Minneapolis on the East bank campus of the University. Closest parking is located across the street in the Fourth Street Ramp.

Information about this presentation:

Language immersion teaching requires skills in integrated curriculum development and language-attentive instruction. Yet, explicit models demonstrating what these skills look like are lacking. During this presentation participants will learn about one Gr. 3 unitundefinedDesigning Model Membranes- originally created as part of Boston Museum of Science Engineering is Elementary® curriculum and now redesigned with permission by the Minnesota Mandarin Immersion Collaborative curriculum team.

Members of this curriculum team will highlight new language planning frameworks designed to support teachers’ ability to integrate, differentiate, and assess students’ language development. Participants will also learn how to access the unit and supporting materials online so they can adapt it for their own purposes.

Presenters: Tara Fortune, Immersion Project Coordinator at CARLA, served on the leadership team of the Minnesota Mandarin Immersion Collaborative. Kathleen Mitchell is a doctoral student in the Second Languages and Cultures program in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). Elizabeth Wilcox recently received her Ph.D. from CEHD’s Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development.
