Language Immersion Programs and Learning Disabilities

  • December 09, 2014
  • 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Groves Academy Theater, St. Louis Park

When a student in an immersion program is struggling academically or socially, it can be difficult to ascertain the primary cause. Difficulties in school relative to the average performance of classroom peers lead educators and parents to question whether the child can be successful in an immersion program or would be best served in a different educational setting. When a student in an immersion program is struggling academically or socially, it can be difficult to ascertain whether the problem lies primarily with the unique learning environment of immersion or the student’s language and learning abilities. This session will give an overview of how to differentiate between typical delays and learning disabilities in an immersion environment.

Please join us as we welcome Tara W. Fortune, M.A., Ph.D., Immersion Program Director at University of Minnesota Center for Advanced Research and Language Acquisition (CARLA) for a workshop at Groves Academy.

Registration is $20, $10 for Groves parents. Register here.
